Chattanooga Mosque Now Open!

The Chattanooga mosque I was hoping would open soon has been opened since July 20th. The official opening date is August 25th and the Chattanooga Muslim community has welcomed churches and city officials to the event. It opened so quietly and without ANY controversy or resistance that I thought it was still under construction. I've been following the construction of this mosque for quite a while and I'm glad there was no grass roots opposition. The long embattled Murfreesboro mosque has also recently opened its doors after 2 years of construction and delays due to lawsuits (video below).  You can read the full story and video of the Chattanooga mosque here.

I am hoping to visit both mosques one day and I sadly won't be able to attend the opening of the Chattanooga mosque. Even though there was no opposition in opening of the Chattanooga mosque I'm hoping others will also visit and at the very least learn something about their neighbors. Hopefully the more visible and the more we learn about our neighbors the less likely there will be another shooting because of religious intolerance and ignorance. For more information on the Chattanooga mosque and driving direction visit their website here.

I am ecstatic and proud to call myself a Chattanoogan!

I am totally against this mosque. Christians are persecuted in all islamic nations. Jews are hated and murdered in the name of their god. Our government committed treason when it allowed a religion hostile to all other beliefs into this nation.

@Anonymous. Thanks for visiting. So is your main argument against this mosque based on the presumption that all Muslims are hostile and violent? Has this particular group been hostile to any of the non Muslim locals? So let's accept your statement that "Christians are persecuted in all Islamic nations" is true for the sake of argument. Does that automatically mean that Muslims in a Western country with much more freedom will begin to persecute their neighbors?

I agree that Jews have been persecuted for centuries but what most people fail to understand (or simply just ignore) is that the majority of historical persecution of Jews we're done by Christians in "Christian" countries, states, and empires. If you're going to label over 1/6th of the world as hostile for the actions of a highly diverse faith which has evolved for centuries you better include Christianity as hostile as well. I have a few books I can recommend on the history between Christianity and Islam if you'd like. Namaste.

Not even three years since it opened and this training center produced its first soldier. Glad to have the mosque now Chattanooga?

Yes. Because it's not a training center, it's a house of worship. Bring me tangible proof of your accusation and I'll change my opinion.
